Huaka’i (field trips) will be at selected Hawaii Island outdoor locations accessible with regular vehicles (non-4 wheel drive). \u003cstrong\u003eWe will meet daily at HWC first and then caravan to field trip locations.\u003c\/strong\u003e After our excursions, we will return to HWC for classes. Students learn to clean and prep shells in the Pīkake style of Niihau.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e•Lei Making—students are taught the Hilo methodology for making Tī leaf into multi-strand lei to be used for Hula performances.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSunday July 28,  2027\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e The entire day is devoted to learn how to gather and cook several traditional Hawaiian dishes found at parties and family lū’au in Hilo. Kuana’s family is known for their delicious Hawaiian food. This session shares those secrets and also teaches haumana how to make these dishes at home and on the continent.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDishes include: Laulau, Kalua pig, Poi pounding, Hō’i’o salad and Kūlolo.
