Join Kuana Torres Kahele for a weekend of Hawaiian Culture Workshops in the Windy City. Classes are split over three days. Courses will also be available for purchase individually.

FRI August 9, 2019
4:00-7:00pm Hula Kahiko Workshop: Learn ancient hula choreography to ‘Oli from Kuana Torres Kahele. Basic hula knowledge is required to take this class. This is a high energy, physically demanding course.
SAT August 10, 2019
9:00-11:00am HULA ‘AUANA “Keaukaha Hula” Kuana teaches a new Mele from the Na Palapalai “BACK to the PATCH” CD. Students learn modern hula choreography and the meaning behind the song and it’s lyrics. Students should have basic hula knowledge in order to take this class.
11:00am-12 noon LUNCH (provided)
12:00pm-2:00pm NIIHAU EARRING: learn the art of Niihau Lei making while completing your very own earring. Kuana covers the history, caries styles of Lei Pūpū O Ni’ihau and different techniques involved in stringing and tying shell Lei.
SUN August 11, 2019
9:00-12:00pm HULA ‘AUANA “Manoaakalani” Learn modern hula choreography from Kuana on one of his original compositions from the MUSIC for the HAWAIIAN ISLANDS, Oahu volume. Students should have a basic hula knowledge to take this class.
12:00-1:00pm LUNCH (provided)
1:00pm-2:30pm ‘OLI (Chant) Learn meaning, protocol and methodology behind Hawaiian ‘Oli or chant.
3:00-6:00pm HULA ‘AUANA “Kukaniloko” Learn hula choreography directly from the composer. Kuana teaches from his newest CD, “MUSIC for the HAWAIIAN ISLANDS vol.7 Kakuhihewa, O’ahu” This song features both Kuana and Robert Cazimero.
