KUANA HILO WORKSHOP WEEKEND (July 24-26, 2026)

LOCATION:

HILO WOMAN’S CLUB • 7 Lele Street Hilo Hawaii 

We will use the HWC (Hilo Woman’s Club) as our home base— hosting craft and Hula classes there daily. Huaka’i (field trips) will be at selected Hawaii Island outdoor locations accessible with regular vehicles (non-4 wheel drive). We will meet daily at HWC first and then caravan to field trip locations. After our excursions, we will return to HWC for classes. We will try to coordinate some carpooling for the excursions.

ATTIRE/FOOTWEAR: For daily excursions, dress comfortable with shoes you can get dirty. Shorts and tank/tee is perfect. It’s July and will be warm. For Hula workshops, dress as you normally would, pa’u skirt or tee/shorts.

LUNCH: please bring your own lunch and drinks. We will provide fruit, light snacks and water each day.

SUNDAY PA’INA: we will host you folks Sunday evening for Hawaiian food and live music. We will break earlier on Sunday and give you folks a chance to leave, rest, shower and regroup about 5:00pm at Hilo Woman’s Club. **you can also stay during that break at the venue if you want.

HUAKA’I LOCATION: Excursion to Uēkahuna, Kīlauea.

Saturday July 25, 2026

9:00AM-4:00PM • LEI MAKING: Lau Koa (Lei Hoaka)

HUAKA’I LOCATION: Maunakea  • Students with gather Koa leaf and learn about the surrounding forest areas.

NIIHAU SHELL EARRING WORKSHOP: Students will learn the single Crownflower style of making Niihau earrings.

HUAKA’I LOCATION: PUNALU’U, PAHALA

MELE: “Aloha Punalu’u”

SUNDAY PA’INA 5:00PM-7:30PM • Our farewell dinner and time to hang out and have fun. We host with Hawaiian food while you Hula. Live Hawaiian music from Kuana and Friends.
