9:00am Check in
9:30am-11:30am ‘OLI (Chant) WORKSHOP ($60)

"'OHU'OHU MAI NEI 'O PAOAKALANAI"  This 'Oli Lei is used when putting on garlands or preparing to wear adornments.  Learn vocal techniques, appropriate usage and meaning behind Hawaiian ‘Oli (chant).  Kuana guides the class through one original ‘Oli explaining procedures, protocol and actual performance.

Students will be allowed to video chant, one time through, at the end of the class for practice purposes. Bring any materials needed for note taking.

11:30am-12:30pm Lunch Break • Package includes a light lunch each of the three days.

 12:30pm-3:00pm KUANA ‘AUANA Workshop • “‘OHU’OHU O’AHU” ($65)

Transport yourself to the misty Ko’olau mountains on O’ahu’s windward side in this gorgeous hula ‘auana.
Students should have a basic hula background in order to take this workshop.  Students will be allowed to video hula, one time through, at the end of the class for practice purposes. Bring any materials needed for note taking. Bring a water.

4:00-6:00pm Fresh Lei Workshop ($55)

“Lei Lau Niu-Coconut Lei” 

Students will use fresh coconut fronds to create a poepoe or rope style fresh lei. All raw materials and tools included. Students will finish a small section of the lei in class and complete it at home.

9:30am-12:00pm KUANA ‘AUANA Workshop  ($65)

“NĀ VAQUEROS”  

By popular demand! Song of the Year award winning Nā Vaqueros tells the story of the Vaquero cowboys coming to Hawai’i Island and falling in love with the beauty of Hawai’i and its beautiful wahine.

Students should have a basic hula background in order to take this workshop.  Students will be allowed to video hula, one time through, at the end of the class for practice purposes. Bring any materials needed for note taking. Bring water. 

12:00pm-1:00pm Lunch Break • Package includes a light lunch each of the three days.

1:00pm-3:00pm NIIHAU EARRING Workshop ($75)

Join Kuana as he shares the history and heritage of the island of Niihau. Learn the techniques for gathering, sorting and piercing the rare shells of Niihau. Students will each receive a prepared packet of Niihau shells that enable them to make a pair of earrings valued at $150.

3:00-3:30pm Break

3:30-6:00pm KUANA KAHIKO Workshop ($65)

Learn techniques and meaning behind ancient Hawaiian hula choreography.  Kahiko is a physically challenging course—students should have basic hula knowledge to take this class.  Students will be allowed to video Kahiko, one time through, at the end of the class for practice purposes. Bring any materials needed for note taking. Bring water. 

Sunday August 8, 2021

9:00am Check in

9:30am-11:30am “Rosette Hairpiece Workshop” ($55)

Learn tips and tricks for making BOTH Ti and Ribbon Rosettes for lei making. Kuana shares different techniques and hacks to improve and simplify floral and artificial lei making. Students will make a small Kupe’e or hairpiece in this class. Materials included.

11:30am-12:30pm Lunch Break • Package includes a light lunch each of the three days.

12:30pm-3:30pm HULA ‘AUANA “Nani Wai’ale” ($65)

The title track from Kuana’s latest CD takes you to the lush uplands of Pi’ihonua on his island home of Hawai’i Keawe. This gorgeous choreography tells the story of this magical place  

Students should have a basic hula background in order to take this workshop.  Students will be allowed to video hula, one time through, at the end of the class for practice purposes. Bring any materials needed for note taking. Bring water.
